To prepare for major works to start in late January 2026, utility provider Powercor will remove existing light poles from within our works area. We will also build temporary pavement so we can keep traffic moving along Ballan Road during major works.
What we’ll be doing and when
From Monday 8 to Tuesday 16 December between 7am and 3pm each day, we’ll build temporary pavement along Ballan and McGrath Road south. This will widen the existing road so we can keep traffic moving in both directions during major works.
On Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December between 8pm and 5am each night, Powercor will remove existing light poles to make space for the upgraded intersection. Detours will be in place. Temporary light towers will be used until new light poles are installed at the end of the project.
What you can expect
Access changes during day works
We’ll close the Ballan Road entry and exit for the medical centre, pharmacy, 7Eleven and Ultra Tune from 7am to 3pm, Monday 8 to Tuesday 16 December. To reach these businesses during this time, please use the entrance and exit on McGrath Road south. Please continue to visit and support these businesses during the works.
Night works
During night works on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December, you may notice noise from construction activities and an increase in workers, construction vehicles and equipment moving in and out of the work areas.
We’ll monitor noise levels and do our best to keep noise to a minimum. We’ll also angle the temporary lighting away from private properties where possible when working at night. If you’re concerned about how these works might affect you, please contact us.
Some works depend on dry weather or ground conditions. If we need to reschedule, we will update impacted stakeholders.
Changes to the way you travel
On Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 December from 8pm to 5am, Powercor will close sections of the Ballan, McGrath and Greens Road roundabout to safely remove the light poles.
Please follow on-road signage for detours and allow an extra 10 minutes for your journey.
Heavy vehicles should use alternate routes via Heaths Road, Princes Highway and Princes Freeway.
