PLANNING

Camerons Lane Interchange

We’re planning for the Camerons Lane Interchange at the Hume Freeway in Beveridge.

Overview

The business case for the Camerons Lane Interchange is complete. The project is in the pre-construction phase to enable the time required to secure the necessary planning and environmental approvals.

The Camerons Lane Interchange Project will:

  • build a new interchange at Camerons Lane and the Hume Freeway
  • close the existing freeway ramps at Lithgow Street
  • upgrade and realign the Hume Freeway in Beveridge to cater for the new interchange
  • add walking and cycling paths
  • install traffic lights at the intersections of Camerons Lane/Patterson Road and Minton Street/Spring Street
  • upgrade Spring Street between Minton and Lithgow streets.

A business case examined the interchange in detail to recommend a design and identify the best delivery approach.

We want your feedback

The Camerons Lane Interchange project is moving into the pre-construction phase, and a planning application will be submitted to the Minister for planning under Clause 52.35 Road Projects of the Mitchell Planning Scheme.

We are seeking your feedback on the proposed use of the land for the interchange, as well as the project boundary we are planning to build the interchange within.

Please complete the survey before 11:59pm, Tuesday 21 April.

Have your say on Engage Victoria

At this stage, feedback is being sought only on these elements:

  • Land use - where and how the land will be used for roads, paths, bridges and related infrastructure needed for the interchange
  • Project boundary - where permanent and temporary works will take place.

This consultation does not seek feedback on:

  • how or when construction will occur
  • construction impacts such as noise, dust or traffic disruption
  • detailed design features, finishes or materials
  • landscaping or lighting
  • project funding or delivery methods
  • other road or infrastructure projects in the area.

We’ll continue to engage with community through the design and construction of the project. However, this will be your only opportunity to provide input on the proposed use and development of land and the project boundary plan before a planning application is submitted to the Minister for Planning.

Feedback outside the scope of this stage will be noted but cannot be used to inform decisions at this time.

Feedback from the survey will be shared once a report has been finalised.

Next steps

During the pre-construction stage we’ll complete activities including:

  • on-site investigations including identifying underground utilities, and testing ground conditions
  • refining the project design and construction approach
  • obtaining planning approvals
  • detailed on-site environmental investigations
  • preparing a Cultural Heritage Management Plan.

Construction timelines will be confirmed once our planning has progressed further.

Minton Street Planning Study

Work on the Minton Street Planning Study has also been completed, to determine what upgrades are needed to support the growth of the area and cater to future land use.

Technical investigations

We’ve been completing technical roadside investigations. At times, we may need to complete additional investigations where we will implement traffic control measures, including temporary lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speeds.

We’ll keep traffic disruption to a minimum and avoid busy periods.

Community feedback

In 2024, we invited your feedback on the proposed Camerons Lane Interchange, and your input played an important role in informing the development of the business case. The business case has now been completed and the project components confirmed.
