Project update

2026 will be a year of milestones for the Clyde Road Upgrade, with lots of progress to take place across the project.

We’ll continue upgrading the Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard intersection until late April. Once the project is complete, Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard will have 2 right turn lanes onto Clyde Road and separate lanes for turning and through traffic, increasing the number of vehicles that will be able to pass through the intersection during each green light.

It’ll make it easier to exit the school and university precinct, especially during busy school pick-up and drop-off periods.

The expanded Clyde Road overpass will also continue to take shape. Once all the beams and concrete panels are installed in late March, our crew will move on to the next stage of widening the overpass.

Over the next few months, we’ll:

Princes Freeway closures

We’re starting major works to widen the Clyde Road overpass above the Princes Freeway, installing the bridge beams and deck. To complete these works, we’ll have a series of overnight closures on the Princes Freeway at Clyde Road and on the Clyde Road overpass.

The Princes Freeway will be closed overnight in both directions at Clyde Road between 8pm to 5am each night from:

  • Tuesday 24 March to Friday 27 March.

Motorists may use the freeway entry and exit ramps to travel over Clyde Road and continue on the Princes Freeway. Detour signs will be in place to guide you. Expect up to an extra 5 minutes of travel time.

Clyde Road overpass closures

During these times above the Clyde Road overpass will also be closed in both directions at Clyde Road.

Detours will be in place:

  • To travel north on Clyde Road towards Berwick, detour via the Princes Freeway and Princes Highway.
  • To travel south on Clyde Road towards Cranbourne, detour via the Princes Freeway and O’Shea Road, with delays of up to 25 minutes expected.
