Overview

The Ison Road Extension will connect with the Ison Road Overpass, currently under construction, to form the new link to the freeway between Melbourne and Geelong.

The extension project, being delivered on behalf of Wyndham City Council, will build 1.3km of a four-lane road between the overpass and Geelong Road (Princes Highway).

Construction is set to begin in 2025. Drivers will be able to use the new link by the end of 2026.

The link will also include walking and cycling paths along the overpass and the extension to Geelong Road (Princes Highway), boosting local active transport opportunities.

Current activities

We’ve been working with Wyndham City Council on the pre-construction phase of the extension project.

Planning work is currently underway including traffic modelling, social studies and environmental investigations.

These will help us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options, and confirm scope and costs of different options.

Next steps

Planning work is continuing and key upcoming activities include:

  • on-site investigations including identifying underground utilities, testing ground conditions and noise studies
  • refining the project design and construction approach
  • obtaining planning approvals
  • engaging with utility providers
  • appointing a construction partner.
