We've completed works on the western side of the intersection and moved to the eastern side, meaning access to the High Street shops and United petrol station has returned to normal.
All turning movements at the Northern Highway and Watson Street intersection are once again available.
While works continue on the eastern side of the intersection, traffic management will remain in place, including reduced lane widths and lower speed limits to help keep road users and workers safe.
During the September-October school holidays we’ll close Watson Street between Northern Highway/High Street and Windham Street to build the eastern side of the intersection. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow signs in the area.
Lane closures and traffic holds on Northern Highway and Watson Street
We'll close lanes and briefly hold traffic on Northern Highway/High Street near the intersection until late 2026 while we continue major construction.
These changes will be in place Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturdays, 7am to 1pm.
Hadfield park closure
From 5.30am, Monday 10 August to 5pm, Friday 11 September we’ll close sections of Hadfield park at the Northern Highway and Watson Street intersection to upgrade the walking and cycling path. The works will include widening of the shared use path as well as installing new pavement.
We have scheduled these works between the Wallan Saturday Market dates to avoid disrupting the market.
What to expect
Activities may generate noise, dust and vibration. We'll monitor impacts and take steps to minimise disruption to nearby residents and businesses.
We’ll keep access open to homes, shops and emergency services throughout these works. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to travel through the area, with signed detours in place where needed.
We’re coordinating these works with the Watson Street Interchange Upgrade to reduce impacts.
