We’re moving into the next stage of construction as we’ll start to build the western side of Watson Street, between Northern Highway/High Street and Wellington Street and continue works on the western side of Watson Street near the shops.
We’ll close Watson Street west between Northern Highway/High Street and Wellington Street from 7pm, Sunday 28 June to 5:30am, Monday 20 July to build the new road, instal drainage, build shared use path connections and complete underground utility works.
We’ll also install a temporary roundabout at the intersection of Queen and Wellington streets to help manage traffic.
Current and upcoming works
From Friday 10 April, traffic will move through a new layout with fewer lanes through the intersection to allow a dedicated work area to be set up on the intersection of Northern Highway and Watson Street.
Until mid-year, other temporary changes around the intersection include:
reduced speed limits to 40km/h on Northern Highway/High Street and Watson Street near the intersection, and on Wellington Street near Watson Street
short-term parking closures along Watson Street
temporary overnight closures of the Northern Highway/High Street service lane at times.
We’ll keep access to homes, shops and emergency services during these works.
Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained, with signed detours in place where needed.
