UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Project update

Northern Highway Intersection Upgrade

We’re moving into the next stage of construction, with works shifting to the eastern side of Northern Highway and Watson Street intersection.

As part of this change, drivers will once again be able to access the High Street shops car park and United service station precinct via the existing entry points on Northern Highway and Watson Street.

What we’re doing and when

To prepare the worksite for the next stage of major construction, we’ll:

  • move the temporary safety barriers to the eastern side of the Northern Highway/High Street and Watson Street intersection to create a safe work area for our crews from 7pm Friday 17 July to 5.30am Saturday 18 July
  • reopen Watson Street (west) between Northern Highway/High Street and Wellington Street to traffic from 5.30am, Saturday 18 July. At this time, the temporary access changes for the United service station precinct and High Street shops car park will return to normal
  • move traffic onto the newly built road on the western side of the intersection from 5.30am, Saturday 18 July. All traffic movements through the intersection will be available.

What to expect

Activities may generate noise, dust and vibration. We'll monitor impacts and take steps to minimise disruption to nearby residents and businesses.

We’ll keep access open to homes, shops and emergency services throughout these works. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to travel through the area, with signed detours in place where needed.

We’re coordinating these works with the Watson Street Interchange Upgrade to reduce impacts.

Works are weather dependent. If we need to reschedule, we’ll keep you updated via our on-road signage.
