We worked to minimise environmental impacts of the Sunbury Road Upgrade project. We implemented a number of sustainability initiatives including measures to manage material waste, reduce water usage, achieve greater energy efficiency, and recycle.
- Solar power - efficient solar panels were installed and energy saving LED lamps used to light the works.
- Hybrid energy - the site office was powered by a hybrid generator using solar power and batteries.
- An eco site shed - used solar energy, efficient heating and cooling, paints free from volatile chemicals, light sensors and indoor plants.
- Old to new - in the foamed bitumen process, road material salvaged from the old Sunbury road was mixed with air, water and bitumen to make the new road.
- Recycled glass sand - 487m3 used to build the road including asphalt and drainage.
- Butt recycling - cigarette butts were collected for recycling into new products.
- Compost - 36.48m3 generated and diverted from landfill.
- Sorting - rubbish was sorted in to types, organic waste, paper, plastic, comingle (glass, aluminium etc.) and landfill.
