PLANNING

Warrandyte Five Ways Intersection Upgrade

We’re planning for a future upgrade to the Ringwood-Warrandyte Road, Croydon Road, Husseys Lane and Brumbys Road intersection in Warrandyte.

Overview

We’re planning for a future upgrade to the Ringwood-Warrandyte Road, Croydon Road, Husseys Lane and Brumbys Road intersection in Warrandyte, known as the Warrandyte Five Ways intersection.

The upgrade aims to cut congestion and boost safety for the 17,000 vehicles that drive through the intersection every day.

Planning update

Planning work is underway and key activities include:

  • developing a design
  • traffic analysis and modelling, to better understand the future growth of the area and the demand this will place on the road network
  • investigations on ground conditions and utility services
  • environmental investigations to understand flora, fauna and tree species.

Initial planning work will be complete in late 2026 and will be used to inform government decisions on future funding.

Community feedback

From 17 November to 7 December 2025, we asked for community feedback to help inform our planning. Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

373 responses were received to our online survey, 104 comments were provided on our interactive map, and 26 people attended our community pop-up.

Feedback provided important local insights that have helped us to understand community views on safety, traffic flow and what we should consider in our planning.

  • Feedback showed strong community support for upgrading the intersection with either a roundabout or traffic lights.
  • Concerns were raised about how difficult it is to turn right safely at the intersection, and unsafe driver behaviour such as not allowing appropriate gaps between vehicles.
  • The community noted there is poor visibility from Husseys Lane and when exiting the service station, as well as confusion about the right-of-way for some vehicle movements.
  • Feedback suggested introducing lower speed limits on Croydon Road and Ringwood-Warrandyte Road, and adding a dedicated left-turn lane on Croydon Road to help reduce queuing.

Technical investigations

To help inform our planning, we’ll complete roadside technical investigations. At times, we may need to implement traffic control measures, including temporary lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speeds.

We’ll keep traffic disruption to a minimum and avoid busy periods, where possible.
