The vast majority of people living and working above the tunnel will not notice construction happening underground. However, as with all major infrastructure projects, some properties directly above tunnels may experience noise and vibration.
Tunnelling may cause some ground-borne noise (created when vibrations pass up through the ground into a building).
This is generally more noticeable when the TBM is near or underneath a property, and is more likely to be heard at night when background noise levels are lower.
The level of vibration expected at surface level during tunnelling depends on the ground conditions, the tunnel depth and the building type.
