The Suburban Rail Loop is now under construction and will slash travel times, reduce congestion and reshape how Melbourne grows. It will bring more homes and housing choice to the areas around the stations – where people want to live – within walking distance of world-class public transport, services, jobs, schools, universities and quality open space.

The areas around the 6 SRL East stations will be thriving, vibrant communities with an additional 70,000 homes to these areas, and 230,000 additional jobs by 2041.
The greatest cities in the world are managing their populations through the delivery of more housing options, close to public transport. London’s new Elizabeth Line which opened in May 2022 has delivered an estimated £42b boost to the UK economy within 2 years, with a direct impact on the development of 55,000 new homes, and 60% of employment growth in Greater London within 1km of an Elizabeth line station. As Melbourne grows, we too need to change the way we grow, with more housing options in our middle suburbs – within walking distance of a world-class train line, and jobs and services.
