In 2018, the need for a Suburban Rail Loop to connect suburbs, regions, jobs, health and education was identified, with SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill earmarked for priority delivery as the first stage of the program.

SRL East has been through more than 4 years of planning and design work to identify the locations of the 6 underground stations and route for the 26km twin tunnels to connect them.

Since 2019, we have engaged with over 20,000 people via online and face to face consultation activities on the biggest infrastructure investment in Victorian history, collecting more than 260,000 pieces of community feedback.

SRL East will deliver huge benefits as soon as it is opened, connecting 71,000 passengers every day from the year 2036 to faster and more reliable public transport – and providing great access to jobs, health and education.
