Removing 50 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne
We’re upgrading the Swan Street Bridge by building an extra traffic lane as well as better walking and cycling paths to remove a key inner city bottleneck and improve safety.
The nearly 70-year-old bridge carries around 30,000 vehicles every day and more than 1,000 pedestrians per hour after major events.
The upgrade will help improve traffic flow in the eastbound direction, particularly during peak periods, and provide safer access across the bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.
Work started on the Swan Street Bridge in 2017 and the project is due to be completed in mid 2018.
The Swan Street Bridge upgrade will be completed in mid 2018
