There are multiple stations within walking distance from Yarraville Gardens. Additional train services will operate from 6am, with trains running every 10 minutes from Flinders Street to Newport Station to help get people to and from the event.
Taking the train - Seddon and Yarraville Train Stations
You can catch the train to Seddon Station and walk the 11 minutes to Yarraville Gardens, with Yarraville Station a 14 minute walk from the event.
For attendees coming from Werribee, Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit, buses will be replacing trains on the Werribee line between Werribee and Newport on event day.
Attendees should:
- take the Metro rail replacement bus service to Newport Train Station, board a train to Yarraville or Seddon stations, and walk to Yarraville Gardens, or
- take the Metro rail replacement bus service to Newport Train Station, then board a train to Footscray Train Station. From Footscray Train Station, take the Discovery Day free shuttle bus to the event.

Taking the free shuttle bus from Footscray Train Station
You can also get the train to Footscray station where you can take the Discovery Day free shuttle bus straight to the event. Shuttles run every 5-10 minutes from 6am.
Local buses
Local buses will be in operation as normal – check times before you travel.
If you’re looking to cycle to the event bike parking will be available on Greelish Oval inside Yarraville Gardens. Please ensure you bring your own chain and lock, as the bike parking will not be monitored.
If you’re catching a ride share or taxi, ensure you are dropped off on Hyde Street. Please note Hyde Street will not be open to regular traffic.
If you choose to drive to the event, please note there will be limited parking available and road closures will be in place. We recommend that you do not drive to the event.
There will be offsite parking from 6am to 6pm located at 542 Footscray Road, West Melbourne. Shuttle buses will run every 5-10 minutes from the parking site to Yarraville Gardens.
With more than 50,000 people expected to attend over the course of the day, temporary changes will be in place around Yarraville Gardens to ensure the safe and smooth delivery of Discovery Day. Please follow the instructions of traffic controllers to help keep the area safe for those travelling through the area.
- Whitehall Street closed in both directions between Somerville Road and Youell Street.
- Hyde Street closed in both directions between Somerville Road and Princess Street, and Somerville Road closed in both directions between Hyde Street and Whitehall Street. Rideshare allowed temporary access to drop off event attendees only.
- Harris Street, between Whitehall Street and Hyde Street and Cowper Street, closed to motorists, but open for accessibility parking and business customers.
- Local traffic only on Cowper Street, and all roads between Bellair Avenue, Somerville Road, Hyde Street, Nicholson Street, and Bristow Street.
- Lane closures on Nicholson Street, Hyde Street, Somerville Road, Whitehall Street, Moreland Street, Footscray Road, MacKenzie Road.
- Reduced speeds and traffic controllers on site to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area.
