Drivers will now have another river crossing, with the twin tunnels connecting the West Gate Freeway to Docklands, North Melbourne and CityLink.

Heading to the city?

  • Choose the West Gate Tunnel or the West Gate Bridge - you'll need to make this decision on the M80 Ring Road or Princes Freeway
  • Choose your new options to exit & enter the freeway network.
  • Choose final destinations for quicker journeys.

You will always have a choice between the tunnel and the bridge:

Using the tunnel

On the West Gate Freeway, stay in the left lanes and enter the tunnel near Williamstown Road.

After exiting the tunnel, follow the signs overhead to exit at CityLink, Dynon Road, Wurundjeri Way or Footscray Road, Docklands.

Heading towards Ballarat or Geelong?

  • You can take the West Gate Tunnel or the West Gate Bridge.
  • Choose your starting point – CityLink, City/Docklands, Hyde Street or from the south-east suburbs.

Pick your lanes on the West Gate Freeway for Geelong or Ballarat.

You will always have a choice between the tunnel and the bridge:

Coming from the West Gate Bridge

Choose your lane early – take the right hand express lanes and follow the signs for M1Geelong or M80 Ring Road.

After Millers Road

  • Stay in the left lanes for M80 Ring Road (Ballarat-bound)
  • Stay in the right lanes for Princes Freeway (Geelong-bound)

Getting to the inner west suburbs

Stay on the left lanes on the West Gate Bridge and follow the Freeway signs to exit at Williamstown Road, Millers Road or Grieve Parade.
