9 May 2025

We’re working on both sides of Bulleen Road as tunnelling continues on North East Link.

What we'll be doing

Activities to support tunnelling works will take place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During this time, we’ll aim to minimise noise and light impacts away from your property as much as possible.

Managing construction impacts

Throughout our works, you may experience noise, light, dust, and vibration. We manage these impacts through real time monitoring, water carts and street sweepers, targeted lighting, and reducing noise and vibration within the construction zone.

You may notice workers on local streets capturing photos as part of our ongoing management of these impacts. We do this in conjunction with our modelling to ensure we have an accurate understanding of how these impacts may be felt in different areas. We will notify you before capturing any photos that include your property and we are happy to provide these photos upon request.

You may also see workers machinery in place, in and around construction areas, workers completing surveys in local streets and an increase of trucks removing dirt from our worksites.

To stay safe, please follow all instructions from signage and traffic controllers. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout these works.

Track our TBMs

Our TBMs are powering ahead, excavating the North East Link tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen. Both TBMs will take planned breaks throughout their journey from Watsonia to Bulleen to undertake regular maintenance.

You can track their progress using our TBM tracker.

Eastern Freeway Upgrades

A new wider, Bulleen Road bridge is continuing to take shape over the Eastern Freeway with foundations installed. Upcoming works on the Eastern Freeway include piling, earthworks, drainage installation, and road widening across Bulleen, Balwyn North, Doncaster, and Mont Albert North, with ongoing utility relocations, asphalting, and safety barrier realignments. Expect lane closures, occasional ramp closures, speed reductions, and diversions in these areas as we deliver these vital upgrades.

To help pedestrians move safely near our Bulleen Road worksites, from May, a new signalised pedestrian crossing will be installed at the intersection of Thompsons and Bulleen roads. Please check for new signals and give way to pedestrians at this crossing.

As part of laying down new pavement and drainage, they’ll be a weekend closure of the Bulleen Road citybound entry ramp which is expected to cause delays of up to 20 minutes. For specific dates, times, and detours please visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au/disruptions

Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade Works

In March, we commenced site establishment works at Bulleen Park starting with works on the temporary car park at the western end of the ovals. This will provide 151 car spaces available during construction from early 2025.

As upgrade works progress, temporary fences will be set up and pathways with clear signage installed to guide park users through the area.

During these upgrade works, one pavilion and two ovals will be maintained at all times. Find out more about the upgrades on our Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade webpage.

Keeping in touch

We’ll be out talking to nearby residents and businesses about these works in more detail, including how we’ll be managing any local impacts. If you have any questions now, please contact the NELP 24/7 Contact Centre on 1800 105 105.

Changes to traffic conditions in Bulleen

Works are underway to build the new Bulleen road and support the construction of the Yarra Link Green Bridge. This includes new access roads near Bulleen Park, Marcellin College, and Manningham Hotel & Club.

Local access to Trinity Grammar, Veneto Club, Carey Grammar and Bulleen Park will be maintained via roads Bullen Road. Access to Marcellin College and Manningham Hotel & Club will be via Thompsons Road and Sandra Street. Drivers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes during these works.

Once complete, Bulleen Road southbound traffic will temporarily use the new Marcellin College and Manningham Hotel & Club access road to get to Thompsons Road and Eastern Freeway. Dates are subject to change. We encourage you to stay up to date with traffic conditions via the VicRoads website or the North East Link website.
