An initial delay to the start of works affected the turf growing period for the ovals. Without this 12-month closure, we would have encountered further delays which would have impacted another football season.
By closing the AFL and cricket sporting ovals and pavilions, we can ensure that users will not be inconvenienced by the site works and will have a more positive experience. Contractors will also be able to complete the upgrades by early 2027 instead of the original completion date of February 2028
