Community feedback has played an important role in planning, designing and delivering North East Link.
Conversations with the community started much earlier than is usual for projects of this kind.
More than 10,000 pieces of community feedback in 2017 during strategic planning for the project helped inform assessments for different corridor options. This included setting the measures used to assess how well different corridor options did, or didn’t perform, and to understand issues and opportunities that should be considered in planning the project.
From 2018 to 2019, a further 3,500 pieces of feedback and over 870 submissions on the Environment Effects Statement, helped lock in the longer tunnel length, interchange designs, where to build new walking and cycling paths and bridges and where to deliver better outcomes for local people and the environment.
As we’ve been bringing the key pieces of North East Link together, including the M80 Ring Road Completion, Eastern Freeway Upgrades and public transport improvements, we’ve been asking local people what they think about the look and feel of the design for their local area.
From 2020 to 2026, Urban Design and Landscape Plans (UDLPs) have been exhibited, with more than 2,000 submissions helping to shape designs for new and returned parklands, playgrounds, wetlands, walking and cycling upgrades and the look and feel of new noise walls and landscaping.
