Dublin Road has reopened to traffic in Ringwood East after a 6 week construction blitz as part of works to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing.
We worked 24/7 for 42 days to build a new section of Dublin Road, which will form the structure that will carry vehicles over the future rail trench.
Building the new section of Dublin Road “offline”, north of the level crossing, minimised disruption by allowing trains on the Lilydale Line to continue running throughout most of the construction blitz.
The 28 concrete columns poured to support the new road deck will only be visible when we return to excavate under the road to build the 650m rail trench that will separate trains from cars.
We'll also build a new Ringwood East Station as part of the level crossing removal project, featuring a main concourse and second entry, accessible platforms and upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths.
The Bedford Road level crossing in Ringwood will also be removed by building a 380m trench under the road.
Removing both level crossings will make Ringwood boom gate free, and see more than 60,000 new native trees, shrubs and grasses planted in the local area.
Together with the removal of the dangerous and congested level crossing at Coolstore Road, Croydon and closure of Cave Hill Road, Lilydale, the Lilydale Line will be level crossing free by 2025, and the Belgrave Line level crossing free between Ferntree Gully and the city.
