As part of the Ringwood Level Crossing Removal Project we have removed the level crossing at Bedford Road, Ringwood and are on track to remove the level crossing at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and build the new Ringwood East station in 2024 – a year ahead of schedule.

The dangerous and congested level crossing at Bedford Road has been removed by lowering the train line into a new 380m rail trench.

We’ll now start landscaping and build the missing walking and cycling link between the Heathmont Rail Trail and Bedford Park alongside the Belgrave Line.

The new connection will remove the need to travel on-road via Lena Grove and improves walking and cycling options in the area.

About 13,500 vehicles travel through these level crossings each day, where the boom gates are down for up to 23 minutes during peak morning periods.

The rail trench design at Bedford Road eases congestion and improves safety, paving the way for more trains to run, more often.

The removal of the Bedford Road level crossing means the Belgrave Line is now level crossing free from the city to Ferntree Gully, changing how locals live, work and travel.
