We removed the level crossings at Bedford Road, Ringwood and Dublin Road, Ringwood East by lowering the rail lines into trenches underneath the roads – making Ringwood level crossing free.
We’ve also built the missing pedestrian and cycling link that connects the 19.2km Heathmont Rail Trail to Bedford Park.
Around 23,000 vehicles travelled through these former level crossings each day, where the boom gates were down for up to 23 minutes of the morning peak.
Project timeline
The Bedford Road level crossing was removed in March 2024, one year ahead of schedule.
