We removed the level crossings at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and Bedford Road, Ringwood by lowering the rail lines into trenches underneath the roads – making Ringwood level crossing free.
A new Ringwood East Station was built as part of the project and features a main concourse and second entry, platforms that are accessible by lifts and stairs, and upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths.
The new station creates safer and more direct links between the Ringwood East shopping precinct, public transport and upgraded parking with about 460 car spaces.
Around 23,000 vehicles travelled through these former level crossings each day, where the boom gates were down for up to 23 minutes of the morning peak.
Planned timeline.
The Dublin Road level crossing was removed in June 2024 and the new Ringwood East Station opened in July 2024.
With this level crossing now gone, the Lilydale Line is the first train line in Melbourne to be level crossing free.
