Crews in Melton are gearing up for a final construction blitz ahead of next month’s opening of the new Ferris Road bridge.
Ferris Road will be closed between Abey Road and Hollingsworth Drive from Tuesday 23 June until Wednesday 15 July, while crews work day and night to complete the new road bridge over the rail line.
Detours will be in place via Abey Road, Exford Road and Mount Cottrell Road, with motorists advised to allow extra travel time.
During the closure, crews will connect the new bridge to the existing road and complete asphalting and line marking ahead of opening the bridge to traffic.
Crews will also continue landscaping, drainage and utility works in the area, with traffic management in place where required to keep workers and road users safe.
The new road bridge, which will feature a walking and cycling path, will permanently remove the dangerous and congested Ferris Road level crossing, improving safety and journey reliability for more than 16,000 drivers each day.
Melton will be level crossing free this year, with works powering ahead to build new rail bridges at nearby Coburns and Exford roads, and a new Melton Station.
