We’re getting ready to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale and build a new Parkdale Station.
Warrigal Road will be closed for 2 weeks so crews can continue work on the temporary track that will keep Frankston Line trains running during construction.
The old boom gates at Warrigal Road have already been dismantled and new boom gates will be put in place so locals can keep using the road safely when the road reopens in mid October. Later this month we will also relocate the Parkers Road level crossing so it lines up with the temporary rail track.
More than 4,000 sleepers and 10,000 tonnes of ballast have already been laid with trains set to run on the temporary track from early November into next year.
During the next month we will:
- install 40 overhead electrical structures to power trains
- install a new signalling system with 10 new signalling boxes and 7 new signals
- build temporary pedestrian crossings at Cremona Street, Warrigal Road and Parkers Road
- join the existing rail track to the temporary rail track.
The level crossings will be gone for good and the new Parkdale Station opens in 2024, with the project fully completed in 2025.
