Making progress in Melton

Crews at Melton have had a big summer, getting ready to make the suburb boom gate free and open the new modern and accessible Melton Station later this year.

All 6 lift shafts and four staircases have been installed for the new elevated station, with glazing and cladding works to continue in the coming months.

The structure of the 16m wide pedestrian through link is complete, with more than 2,000 cubic metres of concrete poured.

Melton Station will feature four platforms with undercover areas to provide shelter from the weather and an air-conditioned waiting room, and 2 extended platforms so passengers can benefit from longer, 9-car VLocity trains running on the Melton Line next year.

Almost 200 pre-cast concrete slabs weighing up to 3 tonnes each have been installed for the station building, and 196 square metres of glass have been fitted for the station roof. Crews are now focusing on works to get the new Melton Station ready for passengers later this year.

Works are also well progressed on building rail bridges over Coburns Road and Exford Road, with both dangerous and congested level crossings being removed this year.

At Ferris Road in Melton, the team has been busy lifting a total of 637 reinforced concrete panels for the new road bridge’s facade, featuring a striking wave pattern. In nearby Truganina, the new Hopkins Road bridge being built over the rail line is also fast taking shape, with crews recently painting the facade and railings a vibrant shade of purple, reflecting local wildflowers.

Both road bridges will open later this year, boosting safety and easing congestion through the area.
