The Ferris Road, Melton Level Crossing Removal Project has completed a major milestone, with the last concrete panel for the road bridge retaining walls now in place.
Crews have been busy lifting in a total of 637 reinforced concrete panels weighing up to 3 tonnes each for the bridge facade, with the distinctive wave design now clearly visible.
In the coming months, crews will finish moving the 40,000 tonnes of earth and rock into place to support the bridge and construct the new road bridge deck and approach pavements.
Removing the level crossing by building a new road bridge over the rail line will make journeys safer and provide more reliable travel times for the thousands of vehicles that travel through the crossing every day.
The Ferris Road level crossing will be gone for good and the new bridge open to traffic in 2026.
Another 3 dangerous and congested level crossings will also be removed this year, at Coburns and Exford roads in Melton, and at Hopkins Road in Truganina, and a new modern and accessible Melton Station will open to passengers in 2026.
