New lifts elevate Melton Station

It’s lift-off at the new Melton Station, with all 6 lift shafts recently installed.

Standing 13m tall and weighing up to 13 tonnes each, the lifts will take passengers directly to one of the 4 platforms at the new station. Each lift is large enough to accommodate mobility scooters, wheelchairs and prams, with stairs also providing access to every platform.

The elevated Melton Station is being built with 4 platforms to accommodate Ballarat train services, including dedicated platforms for services that will begin and end at Melton.

When it opens next year, the station can be accessed from both sides of the rail line, via the 16m wide pedestrian underpass.

The outer platforms, 1 and 4, will each be accessed via 2 sets of lifts and stairs, while the middle platforms will share 2 lifts and stairs.

The new station is also being built with 2 extended platforms, so passengers in Melbourne’s west can benefit from longer, 9-car VLocity trains running on the Melton Line in 2027, one year ahead of schedule.

Running longer trains during peak services will boost passenger capacity by 50%.

Crews will fit out the lifts in the coming months and continue building the new elevated station.

A 14-day construction blitz to upgrade rail infrastructure in Melbourne's west will take place from Saturday 10 to Saturday 24 January, as part of major works to improve train services to Tarneit and along the Melton Line.

The works form part of a major transport upgrade to Melbourne’s west, which includes building the new accessible Melton Station and removing 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns Road, Exford Road and Ferris Road in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina.
