Recycling bus shelters in Melton

Back to Newsfeed

Six decommissioned bus shelters have found a temporary home in Melton, sheltering passengers while we get on with works to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns and Exford roads and build a new elevated Melton Station.

The shelters – 4 from Pakenham Station, 1 from Mordialloc, and 1 from Clyde Road – have been repurposed for use at temporary bus stops north of the existing Melton Station on Brooklyn Road.

With the new Pakenham Station open and works underway in Mordialloc, the shelters were looking for a new home.

This initiative reflects the project’s commitment to sustainability, reducing waste and emissions by reusing materials wherever possible.

The shelters will be in place until the permanent multi-bay bus interchange opens within the new station precinct in 2026 – 2 years ahead of schedule.

The new bus interchange will be accessible from Brooklyn Road, near the Melbourne-bound platforms, creating easier and safer connections between train and bus services.

Major works are underway to remove 4 dangerous and congested level crossings at Coburns Road, Exford Road, Ferris Road in Melton, and Hopkins Road in Truganina.
