Truganina road bridge gets a splash of colour

Back to Newsfeed

Works to build the new Hopkins Road bridge in Truganina have hit a purple patch – literally.

Crews have started painting the facade and railings over the main span of the bridge a vibrant shade of purple, with the bridge piers being painted a sandstone colour.

Construction of the new pedestrian and cycling path is also underway, with 190 cubic metres of concrete already poured. A crane has been lifting in the bridge barriers separating the path.

In the coming months, asphalting for the new road bridge will begin in the coming months, as well as landscaping, comprising more than 80,000 native plants, trees and shrubs.

The dangerous and congested Hopkins Road level crossing will be gone for good and the new road bridge open to traffic in 2026.

Works are also underway to remove a further three level crossings at nearby Ferris, Coburns and Exford roads in Melton, and build a new Melton Station, which will open to passengers in 2026.
