Truganina traffic travelling over Hopkins Road bridge

Truganina is now level crossing free, with the new Hopkins Road bridge open to traffic, boosting safety and easing congestion through the area.

The 25,000 vehicles that previously travelled through the dangerous and congested level crossing every day can now avoiding frustrating delays and wait times at the boom gates.

The new road bridge over the rail line has been painted in a vibrant shade of purple to reflect the local wildflowers and features a separated pedestrian and cyclist path to keep locals connected and moving safely through the area.

With traffic now flowing across the road bridge, crews will landscape the surrounding area with more than 80,000 native plants, trees and shrubs.

Another 3 dangerous and congested level crossings will be removed from the west later this year, with works underway to build the new Ferris Road bridge, and 2 new rail bridges over Coburns and Exford roads in Melton.

A new, bigger and more accessible Melton Station will also open this year, featuring 4 platforms to accommodate Ballarat and Melton services, and longer 9-car VLocity trains to and from Melton from 2027, boosting capacity by 50% on peak services.
