Gippsland students had the chance to learn about careers on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East and speak directly with project team members at the JobSkills Expo in Warragul this week.
Thousands of secondary students attended the event – many hearing first hand about the exciting opportunities on offer on the state’s biggest infrastructure project including through our award-winning Graduate Program.
2024 is the biggest year yet for SRL, with construction underway at all 6 station sites, preparing for the start of tunnelling in 2026. SRL East is creating up to 8000 jobs, with more than 1400 people already working on the project, and hundreds of opportunities for graduates, cadets, trainees and apprentices.
In February, 19 new graduates – including 11 women – started their careers at Suburban Rail Loop Authority and are already gaining valuable experience from experts as well as making their own contributions to the city-shaping project.
SRL East between Cheltenham and Box Hill will open by 2035, providing immediate benefits for Gippsland residents. It will deliver direct connections to Monash and Deakin universities, and Box Hill Institute, as well as jobs and health services across Melbourne’s middle suburbs.
The new transport super hub at Clayton will connect Gippsland line passengers directly to the SRL network and slash travel times. A public transport trip from Traralgon Station in Gippsland to Box Hill Station will be 26 minutes faster.
SRL will also benefit the Gippsland economy, opening up access to the region for tourists and business, with faster train travel and ultimately a link to Melbourne Airport.
