Clayton will become a transport super hub, connecting the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Gippsland lines to SRL and improving access to world-class hospitals and medical research centres.

The station area and surround neighbourhood will provide more open and green spaces, new and upgraded walking and cycling tracks and will attract more housing and businesses. Construction is underway, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains taking passengers in 2035.

The new station at Clayton will be located north of Carinish Road and the existing Clayton Metro station. The underground SRL station will have 2 levels and be fully accessible for all passengers via lifts and escalators.

The station is proposed to have 2 entrances — east and west of Clayton Road — and passengers will be able to easily interchange with the existing Clayton Station. The new station will be connected to the existing station at Clayton via an elevated walkway.

The station will include buildings for ticketing and customer facilities, potential retail spaces, extensive undercover bike parking, as well as places for operational equipment and emergency and safety infrastructure.

Clayton will become a transport super hub, connecting regional Victorians on the Gippsland corridor to the loop and it will be one of Melbourne's busiest metropolitan stations, with trains travelling in 4 different directions. The interchange with the existing Clayton Metro station will be a convenient 'Paid to Paid' link.
