The new underground station at Clayton will become a major interchange, with trains travelling in 4 different directions, providing faster and more convenient transport to key destinations across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The transport superhub will cater to more than 90,000 transfers a day by 2056, and will connect to metropolitan and regional train services on the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Gippsland Lines – improving access to leading medical research and hospitals in the growing health precinct.

Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East between Cheltenham and Box Hill will be complete by 2035, helping improve our public transport system and delivering enormous social and economic benefits to the local community. A journey between Cheltenham and Clayton will take less than 10 minutes, saving commuters 25 minutes.

The new station at Clayton will be located north of Carinish Road and the existing Clayton Metro station. The underground SRL station will have 2 levels and be fully accessible for all passengers via lifts and escalators.

The station is proposed to have 2 entrances – east and west of Clayton Road – and passengers will be able to easily interchange with the existing Clayton Station.

More than a rail line

Beyond the rail line, SRL includes strategic land planning and development initiatives in SRL Precincts that will attract and support clusters of new businesses and deliver better local services and additional housing.

SRL will open up exciting prospects for new recreation spaces and community facilities, as well as improved walking and cycling links that will make Clayton an even more attractive and vibrant place to live, work and visit.

Enhancements to Clayton Road will improve access to the bus interchange, with landscape improvements and new and enhanced public spaces also proposed to support the existing parkland under the elevated rail line.

SRL will support Clayton’s growth – with SRL East and SRL North delivered, jobs in the precinct are expected to almost triple to around 57,500 by 2056.
