Community Crew lends a helping hand

Community organisations, business owners and residents near Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East construction sites in Heatherton, Clayton and Clarinda are receiving hands-on help with the launch of a new ‘Community Crew.’

While we build the southern section of the SRL East tunnels, the Community Crew is helping locals with window, house and car cleaning, gardening, deliveries, graffiti removal, traffic management and more to help manage construction impacts throughout the delivery of the project.

The fully-trained crew of 5 is led by Solomon, a team leader at Wallara – a not-for-profit organisation providing meaningful employment for people with disability.

The crew has already been busy repotting plants and directing pedestrians in Clayton, and washing cars and windows in Heatherton and Clarinda.

With construction of SRL East now well underway, the Community Crew is working full time - and residents and business owners can ask for the team’s help by contacting us.

Construction of SRL East between Cheltenham and Box Hill is underway at all 6 station sites and the train stabling facility. Tunnelling starts next year, and trains will be taking passengers in 2035.

SRL will not only transform our public transport network – as Australia’s largest housing project, it will help deliver thousands more homes in the areas around the 6 SRL East stations – close to jobs, services and world-class public transport.
