What’s been happening
We’re making great progress building the new Ison Road overpass and extension, and we’re on track to open the road in September – 3 months ahead of schedule!
Work is continuing at a rapid pace on the Extension which will connect the Overpass to Geelong Road (Princes Highway), and is being delivered by Victoria’s Big Build, on behalf of Wyndham City Council.
Since we commenced work on the Extension in March 2025, we have completed the majority of the earthworks and drainage installation, including 3 large culverts. Asphalt has been laid near the Browns Road intersection and concrete has been poured to create the walking and cycling path.
Upgrade works at the intersection where Ison Road will connect with Geelong Road/Princes Highway, West Road and Werribee Main Road are underway, which will soon have traffic lights.
On the Overpass, we have completed earthworks and asphalting to connect the road to the existing Ison Road in the north and the Extension in the south, finished pouring the concrete for the walking and cycling paths, installed street lighting and are continuing landscaping.
While the new Ison Road overpass and extension will open in September, we will still need to undertake some finishing work until the end of the year, including landscaping, switching on the new street lights, placing the final layer of asphalt and line marking.
Upcoming works
Intersection upgrade - Princes Highway, Geelong Road and Werribee Main Road
Works at the Princes Highway, Geelong Road and Werribee Main Road intersection are ongoing, with temporary traffic changes in place, including a reduced 40 km/h speed limit.
From 7pm Friday 26 June to 5am Wednesday 1 July, we will be working 24/7 at the roundabout.
During this time, we’ll move safety barriers and prepare to shift traffic onto the new section of road between the Princes Freeway citybound exit ramp, Wests Road and the service centre.
Traffic changes
To safely complete these works, there will be various full and partial roundabout closures:
- 7pm Friday 26 June to 5am Saturday 27 June: full closure
- 5am Saturday 27 June to 7pm Monday 29 June: partial closure (continuous)
- 7pm Monday 29 June to 5am Tuesday 30 June: full closure
- 5am to 7pm Tuesday 30 June: partial closure
- 7pm Tuesday 30 June to 5am Wednesday 1 July: full closure.
A detour will be in place via Duncans Road (see Map 1).
During the partial roundabout closure:
- Freeway-bound traffic on Geelong Road can turn left onto Werribee Main Road to access the Princes Freeway.
- Access to the Maltby Bypass Service Centre will be via the Werribee Main Road roundabout.
- City-bound traffic exiting the Princes Freeway can access Wests Road, Geelong Road and the Service Centre.
- Geelong-bound traffic on the Princes Freeway will detour via Duncans Road.
- Geelong-bound traffic to the Wyndham City Refuse Disposal Facility at 470 Wests Road, and quarries on Wests Road will need to turn around at the Little River exit.
More detail is shown in Map 2.
To minimise delays and avoid queuing when exiting the Princes Freeway, particularly on weeknights, we encourage drivers to detour via Duncans Road throughout the duration of these works.
Access to the Maltby Bypass Service Centre will be maintained at all times.
Weather conditions may affect our progress. If we need to reschedule, we’ll let you know via on-road signage. Further information on current and upcoming works is available from the disruptions map.
