Project update

Ison Road Project

What’s been happening

We’re making great progress building the new Ison Road overpass and extension, and we’re on track to open the road in September – 3 months ahead of schedule!

Work is continuing at a rapid pace on the Extension which will connect the Overpass to Geelong Road (Princes Highway), and is being delivered by Victoria’s Big Build, on behalf of Wyndham City Council.

Since we commenced work on the Extension in March 2025, we have completed the majority of the earthworks and drainage installation, including 3 large culverts. Asphalt has been laid near the Browns Road intersection and concrete has been poured to create the walking and cycling path.

Upgrade works at the intersection where Ison Road will connect with Geelong Road/Princes Highway, West Road and Werribee Main Road are underway, which will soon have traffic lights.

On the Overpass, we have completed earthworks and asphalting to connect the road to the existing Ison Road in the north and the Extension in the south, finished pouring the concrete for the walking and cycling paths, installed street lighting and are continuing landscaping.

While the new Ison Road overpass and extension will open in September, we will still need to undertake some finishing work until the end of the year, including landscaping, switching on the new street lights, placing the final layer of asphalt and line marking.

Upcoming works

Intersection Upgrade of Geelong Road/Princes Highway, Wests Road and Werribee Main Road

Works at Geelong Road/Princes Highway, Wests Road and Werribee Main Road intersection will take place from Sunday 3 May with temporary traffic changes, including a reduced 40 km/h speed limit.

Over the coming months, occasional night works may be required. We will advise the community in advance of any works taking place.

Access to the Maltby Bypass Service Centre will be maintained throughout these works.

Further information on current and upcoming works is available from the disruptions map.

Change in traffic conditions

There are long-term changes to the way you travel while we build the new Ison Road, including:

  • 40km/h reduced speed limits around the area, including on the Princes Freeway city-bound exit ramp
  • local access only on Browns Road between Wests Road and the new Ison Road.
