We worked to understand what matters most to the local community. We also completed an Environment Effects Statement to finalise the Freeway design.

The final design of the Freeway includes:

• bridges over Springvale Road, Governor Road, Lower Dandenong Road and Centre Dandenong Road
• a bridge over Old Dandenong Road to keep it open for Dingley Village residents
• twin bridges over the Waterways wetlands to ensure rain and natural light reaches the vegetation below
• a new intersection at Lower Dandenong Road so Woodlands Drive can remain open
• a new intersection with traffic lights at Wells Road and Thames Promenade
• noise walls for residential properties next to the Freeway
• longer and taller fences next to Braeside Park to protect local wildlife
• a wider pedestrian underpass at Braeside Park
• a walking and cycling path along the length of the freeway, including seating, water stations and bicycle repair stations.

Landscaping

We used community feedback to minimise our impact on the local area, including public space and visual amenity.

We finalised the landscaping and urban design plans through an Independent Urban Design Review Panel. This panel included local council and key stakeholders.

We planted a mix of Indigenous and native trees including:

• River Red Gums
• Coastal Manna Gums
• Swamp Gums
• Narrow Leaved Peppermint Gums
• Blackwoods
• Drooping Sheoak.

We also planted shrubs and grasses along the Freeway.
