Project update

Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road Intersection Upgrade

Upcoming works

Progress update

In June, we finished building our site compound on the northeast corner of the intersection, which is where our team of up to 30 crew will be based while we build the upgrade.

Since then, we’ve been busy placing temporary safety barriers around the intersection, and preparing the area for utility relocation and protection works – which kicked off in August.

As part of the utility works, we’ll relocate or protect:

  • 110 metres of gas main
  • 700 metres of water mains
  • More than 1,000 metres of electrical services.

We’ll also move the existing overhead powerlines surrounding the intersection underground, which looks better visually and improves safety by lowering the risk of a collision.

What's coming up

Between now and the end of the year, we’ll focus on building the southeast corner of the intersection, including:

  • removing the existing kerb and centre median
  • upgrading drainage
  • building the new westbound lanes – including a dedicated left turn slip lane
  • installing new traffic light infrastructure.

To complete these works safely, we’ll close Thompsons Road westbound between Matterhorn Drive and Berwick-Cranbourne Road until late December, with detours in place via Bells Road and Hardys Road.

Access to the Clyde North Business Park will be maintained via Matterhorn Drive and Hamersley Drive.
