What’s been happening
This year, the upgraded intersection continues to take shape. We've recently:
- completed all utility relocations
- demolished the old roundabout, installed the infrastructure for the new traffic signals, laid fresh kerbs, and asphalted all 4 carriageways leading into the intersection
- widened all 4 sections of road.
What's next
Full Intersection Closure
From 5am, Wednesday 1 July to 5am, Monday 13 July, we’ll close the intersection to fast-track works. During this time, we’ll:
- install public lighting poles
- reinstate centre medians
- install new kerbs and guard rails
- remove and smooth out existing asphalt, and install new asphalt
- complete the shared walking and cycling paths.
Detours will be via Thompsons Road, Wheelers Park Drive and Glasscocks Road, or Berwick-Cranbourne Road, Grices Road, and Laker and Fenway boulevards.
When this is completed, the intersection will partially reopen, with Thompsons Road remaining closed in both directions between Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Matterhorn Drive until mid September.
Pedestrian detours and bus stop access
To get around the intersection by foot, detours remain via Honour Avenue, Fenway Boulevard and Matterhorn Drive until the upgrade is completed.
Look out for pedestrian detour signs along the route, and if you’re getting around by bus, be sure to check your nearest stop for any changes.
