What’s been happening
This year, the upgraded intersection continues to take shape. We've recently:
- demolished the old roundabout
- installed the infrastructure for the new traffic lights
- laid fresh kerbs
- asphalted all 4 carriageways leading into the intersection.
Adding a little more to an already impressive list, the team also began work on the new shared walking and cycling paths on the south-east and south-west corners of the intersection.
Best of all, you can now see the new western carriageway taking shape, along with a dedicated left-turn slip lane on the western leg of the intersection which is a key feature that will help improve traffic flow once complete.
What's next
The next phase of construction, which runs until July 2026, includes widening all 4 sections of road leading into the intersection, to make the intersection safer and easier to use.
While the majority of this work will be completed behind barriers, traffic management will be in place with single lane closures at times while these elements will be delivered progressively.
From there, crews will start work on upgrading drainage, helping to minimise flooding for the intersection, ahead of installing traffic islands, traffic lights and new lighting.
There will also be shared walking and cycling paths and upgraded bus stops around the intersection, making it easier and safer for all road users.
We’ll continue to keep the community informed of any changes to their commute or how they access their local shops and services as works progress.
Pedestrian detours and bus stop access
To get around the intersection by foot, detours remain via Honour Avenue, Fenway Boulevard and Matterhorn Drive until the upgrade is completed.
Look out for pedestrian detour signs along the route, and if you’re getting around by bus, be sure to check your nearest stop for any changes.
