Help shape a lasting legacy for Wallan
The Watson Street Interchange Upgrade will improve access, ease congestion, and make it simpler and safer to move into and around Wallan. As part of this work, we’re also creating a lasting community benefit that reflects Wallan’s identity, landscape and community spirit.
About the rest area
The new rest area will be located on Watson Street, on the south-eastern side of the interchange. alongside the upgraded shared walking and cycling path. It will provide a new place for the community to pause and enjoy the area while improving local connections through Wallan.
This new space will include a permanent public art installation, interpretive signage, and seating for people to stop, rest and enjoy the area.
The location has been carefully selected to:
- provide good visibility and access
- support safety and long-term maintenance
- minimise environmental impacts
- integrate with the new interchange infrastructure
- align with feedback from the Department of Transport and Planning and Mitchell Shire Council.
Have your say
We want to hear from the Wallan community about the look and feel of this new space. Your feedback will help shape the public art theme and inform how the rest area reflects what matters most to local people.
You can:
- vote for your preferred theme for the public art installation
- suggest a name for the new rest area and tell us what it means
- share your ideas for what best represents Wallan.
The final artwork will be developed by a selected artist in partnership with key stakeholders.

What happens next
We’ll review community feedback to help shape the final concept for the rest area and public art installation.
Once a theme is selected, we’ll consult with key stakeholders and invite local artists to submit an expression of interest.
A selection panel will then choose an artist to develop the final design in partnership with key stakeholders.
