The first of its kind in Melbourne, a new elevated cycling bridge was built and suspended over Footscray Road. The Dixon Veloway was named after Victorian cycling pioneer and Australian Cycling Hall of Fame member Iris Dixon. The 2.5km veloway has revolutionised bike travel, at 4m wide with 24/7 CCTV monitoring, it gives cyclists a safe and express route to and from the city.
This new piece of infrastructure is a Victorian-first, suspended between the new elevated roadway along Footscray Road, with the bright-green 2.5km path running from Shepherd Bridge in Footscray to the city side of Moonee Ponds Creek, linking into the Federation Trail.
Completely separated from traffic, the new veloway removes the need for cyclists to cross six busy intersections.
