A 3-week construction blitz will kick off in Melton in June to complete the new Ferris Road bridge over the rail line.
Ferris Road will be closed between Abey Road and Hollingsworth Drive during school holidays from Tuesday 23 June to Wednesday 15 July while crews work around the clock to connect the new road bridge to the existing road and finish painting, asphalting and line marking.
Detours will be in place via Abey Road, Exford Road, Bridge Road, and Mount Cottrell Road during this time to keep traffic moving.
The new road bridge will feature a walking and cycling path to keep locals connected and moving safely through the area.
Crews have installed 637 reinforced concrete panels weighing up to 3 tonnes each, moved 40,000 tonnes of earth and rock to support the bridge, constructed the new road bridge deck and approach pavements and started asphalting and painting the road bridge panels and barriers.
The Ferris Road level crossing will be gone for good and the new road bridge will open to traffic on Wednesday 15 July, boosting safety and improving journey reliability for more than 16,000 drivers each day.
In May, the nearby Hopkins Road bridge opened to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, boosting safety and easing congestion.
Works are also underway to remove 2 more level crossings at nearby Coburns and Exford roads in Melton, and build a new Melton Station, which will open to passengers later in 2026.
