Early designs have been released for a new Spotswood Station and rail bridge that will replace the dangerous Hudsons Road, Spotswood level crossing, improving safety and easing congestion.
The new elevated station will open and the level crossing will be removed in 2028, making journeys more reliable and less congested for the 6,600 drivers that use the crossing each day, facing delays when the boom gates are down for up to 50 minutes in the morning peak.
The designs have been shaped by community feedback, with locals showing a preference for connected spaces, while maintaining the heritage look and feel of the area.
The new Spotswood Station will feature 2 entrances at Hudsons Road and McLister Street, with the locally heritage listed station building on Hope Street to be incorporated into the design.
Elevating the rail line creates new open spaces where the community will benefit from seating, improved walking and cycling connections and opportunities for landscaping.
The community can view the designs and provide feedback at Engage Victoria by 11.59pm, Sunday 21 June, and register for an in-person information session to learn more about the project.
Five level crossings are going for good in Melbourne’s inner-west, at Newport, Altona, Yarraville and Spotswood making the Werribee Line level crossing free by 2029.
