We’re closing the level crossing at Anderson Street, Yarraville and building 2 new pedestrian and cycling underpasses to keep the community connected.
Closing this level crossing will enhance the vibrant Yarraville Village and avoid traffic gridlock in the future. It will also make the shopping precinct safer for pedestrians and bike riders to get around.
With the boom gates currently down for up to an hour of the morning peak, when up to 50 trains pass through the level crossing, crossing the rail line is a daily frustration for cars and pedestrians, as well as for students walking or cycling to school.
This level crossing has been the site of a tragic fatality and 4 serious injuries since 2006, plus 26 near misses since 2016.
Planned timeline
The Anderson Street level crossing will close and 2 new underpasses will be open in 2029.
Removing this level crossing will contribute to a level crossing free Werribee Line by 2029.
