A 3 week construction blitz will kick off in Truganina later this month, for final works to build the new Hopkins Road bridge over the rail line.
Hopkins Road will be closed between Grand Boulevard and Meskos Road from 9pm, Tuesday 28 April to 1am, Monday 18 May while crews work around the clock to connect the new road bridge to the existing road and finish asphalting and line marking.
Detours will be in place via Leakes, Troups, Dohertys and Robinsons roads.
Crews have been busy laying more than 5000 tonnes of asphalt, painting the bridge facade and railings a vibrant shade of purple, and building the new pedestrian and cycling path.
More than 80,000 native plants, trees and shrubs will be planted around the new road bridge when the project is completed.
The Hopkins Road level crossing will be gone for good and the new road bridge will open to traffic on Monday 18 May, boosting safety and easing congestion in the area.
Works are also underway to remove 3 more level crossings at nearby Ferris, Coburns and Exford roads in Melton, and build a new Melton Station, which will open to passengers later in 2026.
