We celebrated the end of major works on the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Upgrade with a community thank you event on Saturday 7 September.
To mark the completion of major works, achieved by the project recently, we hosted a free event at Cranbourne Racecourse. With live musical performances, face-painting, a 6 metre slide and the always popular digger and building blocks, there was plenty of fun for the kids!
It was a phenomenal way to sign off the upgrade, which finished 12 months ahead of the scheduled completion date, with the team getting to highlight and thank the efforts of local traders and the community for their patience and understanding throughout the project.
The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade has built:
- an extra lane in each direction between Thompsons Road and the South Gippsland Highway
- new traffic lights to replace the roundabouts on at both Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road
- new signalised intersections at the South Gippsland Highway intersection, Majestic Boulevard and Lyall Street as well as the pedestrian crossing south of Hunt Club Boulevard
- new intersections at Kingdom Drive, Linsell Boulevard and Rochester Parade
- new shared walking and cycling paths
- safety barriers along the road.
The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade has not only improved the region’s road infrastructure but also provided nearly 900,000 work hours for local employment and more than doubled the Aboriginal Employment Target. The project more than doubled its social procurement spend over the course of the project, reaching a total of 7.8% spend with social enterprises and Aboriginal-owned businesses, with the following businesses among those engaged with as part of the project:
- NADRASCA and OC Connections - disability services providers aimed at providing hands-on work experience and employment opportunities to people living with disability.
- Outlook Environmental - a social enterprise with a clear focus on sustainability.
The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade is part of major improvements to your road and rail network in Melbourne’s south-east to connect growing communities, ease congestion on local roads, and improve access to public transport.
Together with recent upgrades to Hall Road, Lathams Road, Thompsons Road and Western Port Highway, as well as upgrades underway on Clyde Road, our works in the south east are:
- providing more reliable travel times in the Cranbourne area
- improving traffic flow and access to local facilities and streets through upgraded intersections and dedicated turning lanes
- making it easier and safer to walk and cycle along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road
- improving liveability in the area through better street lighting and landscaping
- improving safety and reduce the risk of crashes by installing centre median and kerb side safety barriers.
