With the Metro Tunnel and West Gate Tunnel now open, focus turns to North East Link, which is building twin tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen and upgrading the Eastern Freeway.
Across Melbourne, 88 level crossings have already been removed, and autumn will see major progress on more level crossing removals in Melton, Truganina, Dandenong, Altona and Newport.
The Frankston Line will be another step closer to being boom gate-free this autumn, with two more level crossings set to be gone for good McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale, and the new Mordialloc Station set to open to passengers in May.

Inner Melbourne
In early May, major tram works will close the intersection of Flinders and Swanston streets and shut St Kilda Road between Flinders Street and Southbank Boulevard as infrastructure is replaced.
Melbourne's west
Work on the Point Cook Intersection Upgrade will ramp up, with Point Cook Road bridge closed above the Princes Freeway from mid April to mid year as the roundabout is replaced with traffic lights to improve safety and cut travel times. Detours will be in place.
Due to the Maddox Road level crossing removal, buses will replace trains on sections of the Werribee and Williamstown lines between Newport and Werribee for 2 weeks from Friday 10 April.
Hopkins Road, Truganina will be closed at the Maddox Road level crossing for 3 weeks from late April to mid May to build the new road bridge.
Melbourne's north
Bulleen Road will have a southbound closure for up to 2 weeks in April between Bridge Street and Manningham Road as work continues on roads near the North East Link tunnel.
Melbourne's east
Sections of the Eastern Freeway will have overnight and weekend closures at times, including between Doncaster and Bulleen roads for a weekend in late March.
Bridge Road, Richmond will be closed between Punt Road and Church Street over a weekend in April, while the shared tram zone is resurfaced.
Melbourne's south east
While crews finish the new station and rail bridges to remove level crossings, buses will replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line from Thursday 30 April until Thursday 21 May.
Clyde Road, Berwick will have freeway ramp closures in April and May while crews lift beams and pour new road decks as part of widening the bridge over the Princes Freeway.
Ferntree Gully Road will be reduced to 1 lane in each direction at Henderson Road starting in March, for intersection upgrade works.
Construction of Suburban Rail Loop between Cheltenham and Box Hill is ramping up, with tunnel boring machines arriving before tunnelling starts this year. As works begin, there will be lane closures on Bay Road, Cheltenham between May and August.
Works will also continue on Peninsula Link over autumn.
Regional Victoria
Coaches will replace trains on the Maryborough Line from Saturday 25 April to Thursday 21 May for final works to complete the Murray Basin Rail Project.
Coaches will replace trains on sections of the Geelong, Warrnambool, Seymour and Shepparton lines at times in April and May for essential maintenance and upgrade works, and works at Warrnambool Station.
