North East Community Fund awarded Banyule Support and Information Centre (BANSIC) $9,415 to deliver tailored workshops to promote cultural integration and peer support which are key to ameliorating social isolation and the resulting disconnect from community.
The workshops have included food handling, budgeting, Harmony Day celebrations, information sessions from Himilo Homework Group, mindful movement/yoga, painting, body image talks, henna painting and a multicultural lunch.
The project aims to create and maintain community cohesion, and offers support to CALD women in Banyule, especially those who struggle with English or, for a variety of reasons, are isolated or have limited support.
