As part of the North East Community Fund, grants of up to $5000 are now available to help green the north east.
The Greener North East grants will support tree planting and other environmental and sustainability initiatives across the north east suburbs.
Landcare, environment and community groups can apply for:
- Greener North East planting and environment grants: of up to $5000 for projects that bring the community together to plant trees and shrubs or support local biodiversity and habitat.
- Greener North East equipment grants: of up to $5000 for equipment, training, or education activities that build capacity or support the ongoing work of local landcare and environment groups.
To be eligible for consideration, projects or initiatives must benefit suburbs highly affected by construction of North East Link, the M80 Ring Road completion and Eastern Freeway Upgrades.
These are Balwyn North, Box Hill North, Bulleen, Bundoora, Doncaster, Greensborough, Heidelberg, Kew East, Macleod, Mont Albert North, Rosanna, Templestowe Lower, Viewbank, Watsonia North, Watsonia and Yallambie.
Potential projects and initiatives include community tree planting events, tree and shrub planting and revegetation, habitat creation and maintenance (habit boxes or hollows). Grants are also available for equipment or training to support landcare or community education such as field days and citizen science initiatives.
