What’s been happening
The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade has recently:
- upgraded and reopened the intersection at Painted Hills and Bridge Inn roads
- continued upgrading Cookes Road and preparing the intersection for traffic lights
- opened sections of the new walking and cycling path
- finished asphalting sections of the eastbound lanes on Bridge Inn Road
- installed balustrades and handrails on the new bridge over Plenty River
- started landscaping and installing safety barriers and new street lighting along Bridge Inn Road.
Painted Hills Road now open
Painted Hills Road reopened in late June, following vital upgrade works. While the intersection was closed, we:
- relocated over 100 meters of underground telecommunications cables
- installed 70 meters of drainage and approximately 300 meters of new kerbs
- placed 800m² of soil
- laid 2, 100m² of asphalt.
There are still some minor works taking place near the intersection while we continue works on the eastbound lanes.
Local bus stop changes
Bus routes 388 and 389 have now returned to their normal routes now that Painted Hills Road has reopened.
The bus stop on Bridge Inn Road at Lexington Avenue has reopened and the bus stop at Altitude Drive on Bassetts Road now services bus route 381 only.
Temporary pedestrian detour and local business access
Pedestrian access to Painted Hills Road and Independence Boulevard has been maintained. A traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing remains in place so that pedestrians can safely cross Bridge Inn Road while we complete our works. Please follow signage in the area and view the pedestrian and bus access map below for more information.
Access to 7Eleven and StoryHouse Early Learning Centre will remain via Painted Hills Road and Whitford Way.
Cookes Road intersection
We’re working behind barriers to upgrade the southbound lanes of Cookes Road.
Over the last few months, we’ve switched traffic onto the new northbound lanes. Since then we’ve commenced earthworks and drainage installation in preparation to build the new pavement layers.
We’re installing new traffic lights at the intersection to make it safer for all road users when travelling through the area.
Construction impacts
Our construction activities may generate varying levels of noise, dust and vibration at times. We’ll have measures in place to ensure these impacts are minimised.
Most our works will take place between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 5pm, Saturdays. The progress of our works will depend on weather and ground conditions.
There will be intermittent lane closures on Bridge Inn Road over the next few months. When we need to work at night, we’ll let you know ahead of time.
