Access changes

When the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue Intersection Upgrade is complete, some local road and property access will be changed to left in and left out only.

When we upgrade main roads by adding new lanes, it’s important to restrict where cars can turn right (across multiple lanes) into or out of driveways and side roads.

Restricting right-hand turns improves safety for road users and lowers the risk and severity of crashes. It also greatly improves traffic flow by directing traffic to designated intersections, preventing drivers from attempting risky and uncontrolled movements.

There will be permanent access changes at Fitzpatrick Drive and Lunn Court, and also for some properties on Point Cook Road.

In late 2024 and early 2025, we conducted door knocks of residents on Point Cook Road, Fitzpatrick Drive, Ayr Street and Lunn Court, who will be directly impacted by these permanent access changes. If a resident was not at home at the time of our doorknocks, we put letters about the changes in their mailbox.

As part of the upgrade, we’ll permanently change Fitzpatrick Drive to left in and left out only, meaning you’ll no longer be able to:

turn right onto Fitzpatrick Drive from Central Avenue
turn right onto Central Avenue from Fitzpatrick Drive.

We’ll also create a new left-in only opening into Fitzpatrick Drive from Point Cook Road, which will improve local access to Fitzpatrick Drive and Ayr Street.

To head east on Central Avenue from Fitzpatrick Drive, you’ll need to:
- turn left onto Central Avenue
- do a U-turn at the new traffic lights
To access Fitzpatrick Drive, you’ll need to:
- continue south on Point Cook Road
- turn left at Fitzpatrick Drive.

You’ll still be able to turn left into Fitzpatrick Drive if driving westbound on Central Avenue.

As part of the upgrade, we’ll permanently remove the right-hand turn from Central Avenue into Lunn Court.

Instead of turning right into Lunn Court, you’ll need to:

continue west on Central Avenue and do a U-turn at the new traffic lights
turn left into Lunn Court.

All other movements in and out of Lunn Court will stay the same.

As part of the upgrade, we’re building a new centre median on Point Cook Road to improve safety and traffic flow. This means we’ll permanently change access to left in, left out only for some properties on the west side of Point Cook Road, between Central Avenue and Fitzpatrick Drive.

Instead of turning right into these properties from Point Cook Road, you’ll need to:

continue south on Point Cook Road and do a U-turn at the Seabrook Boulevard/Shane Avenue roundabout
turn left into your property.

Instead of turning right onto Point Cook Road from these properties, you’ll need to:

turn left onto Point Cook Road and do a U-turn at the new traffic lights
head south on Point Cook Road.

Some properties on the east side of Point Cook Road, between Central Avenue and Fitzpatrick Drive, will also change to left in, left out only.

Instead of turning right into these properties from Point Cook Road, you’ll need to:

continue north on Point Cook Road and do a U-turn at the new traffic light intersection
turn left into your property.

Instead of turning right onto Point Cook Road from these properties, you’ll need to:

turn left onto Point Cook Road and do a U-turn at the Seabrook Boulevard/Shane Avenue roundabout
head north on Point Cook Road.
