PLANNING

Central Avenue Upgrade

Point Cook Road and Central Avenue Upgrades

Overview

We’re adding extra lanes to Central Avenue between Lunn Court and Skehan Boulevard, Altona Meadows

The project is currently in the planning stage and will improve safety, reduce travel times and cater for population growth.

Planning update

Planning work will soon commence. Key activities will include:

  • detailed traffic analysis and modelling, to better understand the future growth of the area and the demand this will place on the road network
  • on-site investigations to test the condition of the ground and the quality of the existing road surface
  • environmental investigations to understand flora, fauna and tree species
  • investigations to map utility services above and below the ground
  • developing a detailed project design for construction.

Construction timelines will be known once our planning has progressed further.

Technical investigations

To help inform our planning, we’ll complete roadside technical investigations. At times, we may need to implement traffic control measures, including temporary lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speeds. We’ll keep traffic disruption to a minimum and avoid busy periods.

Community and business feedback

From 13 March to 2 April 2023, we asked for community and business feedback via Engage Victoria to help inform our planning. Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

Feedback identified strong support to add extra lanes along Central Avenue, noted the need to add safe pedestrian crossing locations along Central Avenue and add traffic lights to the Central Avenue and Skehan Boulevard intersection to improve safety.
