You’ve heard of paint by numbers, here’s Victoria’s Big Build by numbers.
A snapshot of what we’ve achieved since we started.
5
Work is progressing on the 5 new underground CBD stations as part of the Metro Tunnel Project. The new Anzac, Arden, Parkville, State Library and Town Hall stations will open to passengers in 2025.
8
We’ve had 4 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) complete tunnelling for the Metro Tunnel and 4 mini-TBMs complete utilities tunnels for North East Link.
12
We’ve removed 12 dangerous and congested level crossings in 2021, with 56 now gone for good.
17
On the road network, 17 major road projects are now complete. The new Mordialloc Freeway is open a year ahead of schedule and the 2 sides of the Echuca-Moama Bridge have joined in the middle.
41
We’ve built or upgraded 41 train stations, with another currently 37 under construction.
80
Detailed planning work is progressing on stage 1 of Geelong Fast Rail, with 80 organisations registering their interest to help deliver the region-shaping project.
100
We’ve built or upgraded more than 100km of walking and cycling paths, with another 150km under construction.
125
The Ballarat Line Upgrade is now complete, delivering 125 extra weekly services and critical infrastructure.
2760
More than 2760 car parks have been added to the rail network for commuters, with 950 more to come – that’s about the same number as at Westfield Southland.
380,000
We’ve delivered 380,000 square metres of open space – the size of the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. This includes new playgrounds, dog parks and sports courts.
1.6 million
About 1.6 million trees, shrubs and seedlings have been planted as part of our projects – enough to fill Central Park 3 times over.
7.2 billion
Around 7.2 billion litres of recycled materials have been used across 3 major road projects – Childs Road, Fitzsimons Lane and Hallam North Road – with another 50 projects to come. Together, these materials weigh as much as the Eureka Tower. They include recycled glass, plastic, concrete and brick, and reclaimed asphalt and soil – all kept from landfill.
