Aboriginal places

Aboriginal places are an area that is of cultural heritage significance to Aboriginal people, including:

  • an area of land
  • an expanse of water
  • a natural feature, formation or landscape
  • an archaeological site, feature of deposit
  • land set aside for the purpose of enabling Aboriginal ancestral remains to be reinterred
  • a building or structure.

Aboriginal places are protected under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.
