Removing 50 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne
Set to become Melbourne's newest freeway, the Mordialloc Freeway will link the end of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road to the Dingley Bypass.
There will be a range of features to help improve traffic flow and travel times, including:
- bridges over Springvale Road, Governor Road, Lower Dandenong Road and Centre Dandenong Road, including four new freeway interchanges with entry and exit ramps
- bridges over Old Dandenong Road and the sensitive waterways area, with traffic lights connecting the freeway to Dingley Bypass
- upgrades to the existing interchange at Thames Promenade, Chelsea, with the Mornington Peninsula Freeway to provide freeway entry and exit ramps
- a new separate shared walking and cycling path along the entire length of the freeway.
The project is currently in the tendering stage, with two preferred contractors preparing bids. A preferred contractor will announced in late 2018.
Works are expected to begin in 2019 and construction due to be completed by the end of 2021.
