When the Metro Tunnel opens to passengers in 2025, work will be underway on two commercial buildings above Town Hall and State Library stations.
These developments are not part of the Metro Tunnel Project.
Town Hall Place is a commercial building being developed by Lendlease above Town Hall Station.
This 10-storey building, next to Young & Jackson on the corner of Swanston and Flinders streets, will include shops, cafes, office spaces and casual public meeting areas. Lendlease expects to complete construction in the second half of 2026.
For more information about this development, see the Town Hall Place fact sheet (PDF, 1.2 MB) or visit Lendlease’s Town Hall Place website.
While construction of this building is underway, passengers will be able to enter Town Hall Place from Swanston Street to get to the Town Hall Station entrance.
Once the building is complete, passengers will be able to enter Town Hall Place to get to the station entrance from Swanston Street, Flinders Street, or from Scott and Cocker alleys off Flinders Lane.
A multi-level building is planned at State Library Station, above the station’s main entrance at the corner of La Trobe and Swanston streets.
This building will offer commercial opportunities and residential apartments and is being developed by Scape. More information will be provided shortly.
